Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 hits theaters June 19, 2026, and this time the toys are up against a screen. The film follows Woody, Buzz, and Jessie when Bonnie gets hooked on Lilypad, a smart tablet voiced by Greta Lee with her own ideas about the kid.
Pixar pulled the cast back together for this one. Tom Hanks returns as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz, and Joan Cusack as Jessie. Bonnie is now voiced by Scarlett Spears, and Greta Lee voices Lilypad, the tablet at the center of the conflict. Andrew Stanton directs, with Kenna Harris co-directing and co-writing the screenplay.
What is Toy Story 5 actually about?
The story centers on Jessie, not Woody. The cowgirl introduced in 1999’s Toy Story 2 now leads Bonnie’s room, and Lilypad’s arrival makes her question what it means to matter to her kid. Buzz serves as her deputy, and Woody gets a surprise call during a toy-rescue mission that brings him back to Bonnie’s room.
Harris said the tech angle was there from the start. “How would the toys feel about a device in their room? What started as a binary good vs. evil story morphed over time, because tech isn’t going away,” she said. The result is the toys learning to coexist with Lilypad rather than simply defeating her. That evolution from a clean villain to something messier tracks with the studio’s recent instincts. Disney Store has already stocked a 181-piece Toy Story 5 lineup ahead of the premiere.
Why the cast says this story hits different
The actors framed it around a kid losing the urge to play. “Bonnie is losing her sense of play. That rattles everybody,” Hanks said. He pointed to a scene where Bonnie’s online “friends” text about her and her feelings get hurt, calling it “prescient to modern day.”
Tim Allen kept the focus on Jessie. “This is Jessie’s story. It isn’t about us. We are working together for Jessie’s good, and for Bonnie’s,” he said. Greta Lee, who voices the tablet, leaned into the relatable side: “Just living in this modern world, you feel like, I have to optimize. I have to achieve. I do hope that kids and parents and adults remember how important actual human connection is.”
When and where can you see it?
Toy Story 5 opens in theaters June 19, 2026. Disney already held a UK launch event at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London, with Hanks, Allen, Cusack, and Lee in attendance. This is the first Toy Story film since Toy Story 4 in 2019, and the first to tackle screen time directly, an aspect of childhood Pixar had not explored before.
If a Toy Story trip is on your radar, the characters stay busy across the parks year-round, so it is worth checking out the Pixar Pals Spectacular at Hong Kong Disneyland before you go.
What changed
Disney has not announced park overlays or special Toy Story 5 events at Walt Disney World or Disneyland. Runtime and home-release timing also were not part of this announcement. For now, the official news is the theatrical date and the story setup. Tie-in products are already on shelves, from the Disney Store lineup to 2026 Topps Chrome cards. Anyone planning around park entertainment should watch official channels for any Toy Story programming that follows the film.
What to know: Toy Story 5 lands in theaters Friday, June 19, 2026. Jessie leads, the conflict is a smart tablet named Lilypad, and the full original voice cast is back. No park tie-ins have been confirmed yet.
