Disney just pointed fans toward a detail inside Tiana’s Bayou Adventure that is easy to miss: a tribute to military service and the families behind it. In one spot in the queue and story, guests can find photos, memorabilia, and letters that Tiana’s father James sent home while serving overseas during World War I. The attraction is open at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland park.

Where is the military tribute in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?Who was the real inspiration for James? What to know before you go

James is the connective tissue here. In The Princess and the Frog, Tiana’s dad was a WWI veteran, and Walt Disney Imagineering expanded that backstory inside the ride with help from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The result is a quiet corner of the attraction built specifically as a tribute to military families, timed in this update to Father’s Day weekend.

Where is the military tribute in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

The tribute lives in the queue and story of the attraction, where Disney placed photos, memorabilia, and letters from James to his daughter. Imagineers designed these elements to honor both service members and the families who wait at home. If you have walked the queue without stopping, this is the spot worth slowing down for on your next Magic Kingdom day.

Disney says many veterans have shared over the past two years that the recognition of military families makes the attraction especially meaningful. The relationship between Tiana and her father comes up most often as the part that lands.

Who was the real inspiration for James?

The photos used as reference inside the ride were inspired by real soldiers from the 369th Regiment, one of the first African American regiments to serve with the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. Many members of that unit earned the Croix de Guerre medal from the French government for their service. Imagineers said they leaned on real WWI soldier photos to get the details right.

Ted Robledo, executive creative director for Walt Disney Imagineering, said the team wanted to expand James’ story in a way that honored veterans who visit the parks. Project lead Charita Carter, executive creative producer and the daughter of a career U.S. Air Force officer, said the tribute carried personal weight for her. She framed it as a small way to pay tribute to the pride military families feel.

What to know before you go

This is not a new ride or a new offering. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has been open about two years, and the military tribute has been part of the experience since it debuted. Disney highlighted it again for Father’s Day, so the news is the spotlight, not a change to the attraction itself.

For planning, the tribute exists at both coasts: Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World and Disneyland park in California. Disney did not announce any special Father’s Day event tied to the tribute, and there is no separate ticket or access rule beyond normal entry to the ride at either resort. If you are riding this weekend with a veteran in the family, the queue is where to look. If you want the shortest standby line, the live Magic Kingdom wait times show when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is moving fastest.

What to know: The tribute is in the queue and story, it honors James as a decorated WWI veteran, and the reference photos draw from the real 369th Regiment. It plays at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland.
