Ryan Gosling is joining the MCU as Ghost Rider. Kevin Feige brought Gosling and director Shawn Levy onstage in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con to announce the new Marvel Studios film, which hits theaters in 2028. Jonathan Tropper, who wrote Star Wars: Starfighter, is writing the script.
That wasn’t the only reveal. Ryan Coogler closed out the presentation by introducing David Jonsson, of Alien: Romulus, as the new Black Panther, with Letitia Wright and Winston Duke confirming Black Panther 3 arrives in theaters December 15, 2028.
What happened at the Avengers: Doomsday panel?
Feige moderated a mega-panel with directors Anthony and Joe Russo plus a stage full of cast, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, and Anthony Mackie. Hayley Atwell showed up to confirm she’s returning as Peggy Carter.
Then came the part people will be talking about for a while. Every attendee got a Doctor Doom mask and cloak, and Downey Jr., playing Victor von Doom himself, invited the room to put them on during the panel. A Hall H full of Dooms, at the invitation of Doom. That’s a flex.
The film puts heroes from three distinct universes on a collision course against an existential threat, and the room got an exclusive look at footage. Avengers: Doomsday releases exclusively in theaters December 18, 2026. Marvel’s biggest screen moments tend to ripple into the parks, which is worth watching if you follow Marvel attractions at the Disney parks.
Jon Bernthal surprises Hall H
Bernthal joined Feige onstage to talk about playing Frank Castle in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and showed an early look at the film. That one’s from Sony Pictures, and it lands in theaters July 31, 2026.
Feige’s panel also stacked the Doomsday roster well beyond who showed up in person. Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Channing Tatum, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and Sebastian Stan are all in the cast, alongside Simu Liu, James Marsden, David Harbour, and Letitia Wright, who took the stage in San Diego. Louis D’Esposito and Jonathan Schwartz produce with Feige.
What to know
Four dates matter here, and only one is close: Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026, then Avengers: Doomsday in December, with the two 2028 films after that. Marvel hasn’t given Ghost Rider a specific 2028 date yet, just the year. If you’re tracking how these releases show up on property, the Disney California Adventure side of things is usually where Marvel news turns physical first.
