How do Universal’s test seats work?Which Universal rides are most comfortable for plus-size guests?Which shows made the favorites list?

Universal Orlando published a first-person guest story on August 5, 2026 from a plus-size visitor who spent a week at the resort with family, and it reads like a working ride guide. It names nine attractions across the three parks that felt comfortable, and it walks through how to check a restraint before ever joining a line.

The prep started before the trip: supportive shoes, sweat-wicking clothes that don’t chafe, and a read of Universal’s online guide for safety and accessibility. Tennis skirts get called the unsung heroes of theme park fashion, which is the kind of tip that only comes from someone who actually walked the miles.

How do Universal’s test seats work?

Test seats are mock-ups of real ride seats placed at the entrance of many attractions. You sit down and try to buckle or pull down the restraint. A small light turns green if it fastens properly and red if it can’t.

That takes the guesswork out before you commit to a queue. Asking Team Members where to sit helped too, and it’s how the writer landed on a middle seat for Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment instead of an end seat, which turned out to be roomier.

Which Universal rides are most comfortable for plus-size guests?

At Universal Studios Florida, Men in Black: Alien Attack uses lap bars rather than over-the-shoulder harnesses, easier on larger chests, torsos and shoulders. Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast has no seats at all, since the whole ride is a moving walkway. Hogwarts Express has no restraints and runs between Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure, so you’ll need Park-to-Park admission to ride it.

The Islands of Adventure picks lean gentle. Skull Island: Reign of Kong has bench-style seating and no over-the-head harness. Cat in the Hat keeps a simple restraint with more flexibility, and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish has no tight restraints for families riding with little kids.

Over at Epic Universe, Fyre Drill has roomy bench-style seating and it’ll soak you. Constellation Carousel gives riders multiple carriage options with seat belt-style restraints that sit low across the hips.

Which shows made the favorites list?

Four of them: The Untrainable Dragon, Hogwarts Always, Le Cirque Arcanus and The Bourne Stuntacular. Most of the shows run in cool, dark theaters, which is a real break from the Florida sun.

Check the app for show times and build the day around them.

Shark Take: The test seat tip is the one to actually use. They sit right at the entrance of many attractions, and a green light beats a long queue and a maybe.
