Universal Studios Japan is handing kids a free ticket this winter. The Holiday Kids Free Pass goes on sale Monday, September 14, around 12:00 p.m., and it covers one child with every paying adult. The park is framing it as a 25th anniversary thank-you to families across Japan.
The pair starts at 8,400 yen, against a usual starting price of 13,900 yen for the same two tickets. It works for park days from Friday, November 13 through Wednesday, December 30.
Who can buy the Holiday Kids Free Pass?
Buyers have to live in Japan and upload official ID showing the child’s age at checkout. A passport, My Number card, residence certificate, or student ID all work. The free child ticket covers ages 4 to 11, and a 12-year-old still in elementary school counts at the child price. Sales run through the park’s official website, JTB shops, and official, alliance, and associate hotels for their guests.
Hotels are in on it too. The Holiday Kids Free Plan gets kids a free stay or a special family room rate, with the exact perk set by each hotel. Check-ins run across the same winter stretch, at properties including Hotel Kintetsu Universal City and OMO7 Osaka by Hoshino Resorts.
Kids who enter on the pass can upgrade that day at the in-park Annual Pass Center. The child Prime Annual Pass Standard drops to 8,000 yen from 15,400 yen.
Pass holders also unlock in-park deals: half-price kids’ sets with an adult entree, and buy three churros to get the cheapest one half off. USJ says the fine print on those lands later.
Three churros as a family unit of measurement is the most Universal Studios Japan sentence I’ve read all year.
A Power-Up Band and case special set also goes on sale September 14 at park shops and the official online store.
