R.J. Decker, a new crime series from 20th Television, premieres March 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and streams on Hulu. The show stars Scott Speedman as a former newspaper photographer and ex-con who reinvents himself as a private investigator in South Florida.
Inspired by Carl Hiaasen’s novel Double Whammy, the series follows R.J. as he takes on cases ranging from slightly odd to outright bizarre. He’s joined by his journalist ex (Adelaide Clemens), her police detective wife (Bevin Bru) and a shadowy woman from his past (Jaina Lee Ortiz) who could be his greatest ally or his one-way ticket back to prison.
R.J. Decker Joins a Long Line of Disney Detectives
To celebrate the premiere, D23 highlighted some of Disney’s most iconic detective characters throughout the decades. The roster includes Basil from The Great Mouse Detective (1986), Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins) from Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), Warren Beatty’s Dick Tracy (1990), and Chip and Dale from the Rescue Rangers series (1989).
More recent additions to Disney’s detective lineup include Dipper and Mabel Pines from Gravity Falls (2012), who spend their summer investigating the paranormal mysteries of a small Oregon town, and Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from Zootopia (2016) and its 2025 sequel, where the unlikely duo tackles cases that threaten the animal metropolis.
The animated nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie also made the cut for their globe-spanning adventures in DuckTales, both the 1987 original and the 2017 Disney XD reboot.
R.J. Decker is produced by 20th Television, part of The Walt Disney Company’s television studio group.
