Lionel Messi is producing an animated series where a kid battles giants in soccer-like matches. “Messi and the Giants” debuted its teaser trailer on October 2 at San Diego Comic-Con Málaga in Spain. More than 3,000 fans watched it in Hall M.
The sports-fantasy series premieres globally on Disney+ in summer 2027. Argentinian actor Milo Burgess-Webb voices its 12-year-old hero, Leo.
What is Messi and the Giants about?
Leo gets trapped in an alternate reality ruled by giants. Getting home means competing in high-stakes, soccer-like battles using powerful “orbs.” He also has to defeat legendary giants and restore the fractured realms of Iko.
There’s a twist. Everyone in that world can use code powers to supercharge their game, except Leo. He has to win on skill, teamwork and determination alone.
It’s an underdog story about courage, perseverance and believing in yourself.
The teaser also introduced the show’s original theme song, “Vamos, Vamos, Vamos.” It’s recorded by Luck Ra, another Argentinian on the project.
Who’s making Messi and the Giants?
The Hall M panel at San Diego Comic-Con Málaga featured executive producers Lacey Stanton and Bryan Korn of Sony Pictures Television. Director Dan Creteur of Atlantis Studios and Sergi Reitg of Sony Music Vision joined them. Together they walked fans through the series’ original mythology, its characters and its music.
Messi is credited under his full name, Lionel Messi Cuccittini, as an executive producer. Jorge Messi Pérez is also credited as an executive producer, in memoriam. Kurt Mueller and Guy Toubes produce for Sony Pictures Television alongside Stanton and Korn. Afo Verde produces for Sony Music Latin Iberia, while Tom Mackay and Reitg produce for Sony Music Vision.
Atlantis Animation is handling the series animation. That puts Sony’s TV and music teams behind the scenes, with Disney as the home where families will watch it.
U.S. viewers get a second option beyond streaming. The series will also air on Disney Channel, while the rest of the world watches on Disney+. Disney hasn’t announced an exact premiere date or episode count yet.
Fans who want to follow along before then can find the show on Instagram and TikTok at @MessiAndTheGiants. Disney Television Animation is posting under @DisneyTVA, and the official hashtag is #MessiAndTheGiants.
