Editor’s note: This article has been updated to better reflect Theme Park Shark’s on-site Universal Kids Resort preview coverage and the details Universal has already released about the park. The Boys & Girls Clubs sneak peek is the news hook, but families are not starting from zero here.

Universal gave its first guests a look inside Universal Kids Resort before the gates open. Nearly 400 children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County toured the park during a special sneak peek, making them among the first kids to experience Universal’s first theme park built specifically for younger families.

The resort opens in Frisco, Texas on July 1, 2026. Team Members met the kids and their chaperones at the front entrance and walked them into the park’s seven themed lands, each filled with rides, play areas, restaurants, stores, and character moments built around brands kids already know.

What this sneak peek actually means

The new part of this announcement is the community preview itself. Nearly 400 local kids got inside before opening day through Universal’s partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. That is a feel-good preview moment, and it also shows Universal is already testing the park with the exact audience it was built for.

Dan Cuffe, Vice President and General Manager of Universal Kids Resort, framed the previews as the payoff for years of work. “One of the most rewarding parts of preparing to open Universal Kids Resort has been welcoming children into the park and seeing their reactions firsthand,” he said. “We were thrilled to welcome the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County and share this special preview as part of our ongoing commitment to the North Texas community.”

We already know a lot about Universal Kids Resort

This is not a mystery park. Universal has already announced the seven lands, and Theme Park Shark was on the ground in Frisco for a hosted media preview before opening. The park includes DreamWorks’ Shrek’s Swamp, Jurassic World Adventure Camp, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom, Illumination’s Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club, DreamWorks’ TrollsFest, DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots Del Mar, and Isle of Curiosity featuring Gabby’s Dollhouse.

The ride lineup includes family-focused attractions like Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster, Mr. DNA’s Double Helix Spin, Pteranodrop, Bobbing Barrels, Mrs. Puff’s Boating School, Barnacle Bus, Shrek & Fiona’s Happily Ogre After, Bello Bay Cruise, Bello Bay Golf Car Derby, Rhonda’s TrollsFest Express, Hair in the Clouds, and Swings Over Del Mar. This is not Universal Orlando with smaller coasters. It is a whole park aimed at kids who are still growing into bigger theme park thrills.

Theme Park Shark has also covered the hotel, restaurant menus, merchandise, tickets, and height requirements from the preview period. For parents, those are the details that matter more than the sneak peek ceremony: how tall your kid needs to be, what a day costs, where you can eat, and whether the hotel makes sense.

Why the Boys & Girls Clubs visit matters

The sneak peek ties into Universal Destinations & Experiences’ longstanding partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Universal teams across the company work with local Clubs to put kids first in line for new destinations and attractions, and the Collin County visit followed that pattern ahead of opening day.

It also fits the park’s whole pitch. Universal Kids Resort is not trying to impress coaster fans first. It is trying to make younger kids feel like the park belongs to them. Letting local children be among the first guests is exactly the kind of opening-week signal Universal wants to send in North Texas.

When does Universal Kids Resort open?

Universal Kids Resort officially opens July 1, 2026, in Frisco, just north of Dallas. The park is now officially open, and I covered what opening day looked like at Universal Kids Resort in Frisco. If you are planning a trip, start with the practical pieces: ticket date, hotel stay, your child’s height, and which lands matter most to your family.

What to know: Universal Kids Resort opens July 1 in Frisco, Texas. Nearly 400 kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County previewed the park first. The park’s broader details are already out, including its seven lands, multiple family rides, the on-site hotel, restaurants, stores, and ticket options.
