Nintendo and Illumination dropped the final trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on March 10, 2026, as part of MAR10 Day celebrations. The trailer confirms a wave of new cast members, reveals the first look at a classic villain, and sets the stage for what Shigeru Miyamoto is calling the centerpiece of the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary. The film arrives in theaters April 1, 2026.
Donald Glover Is Yoshi
The biggest reveal: Donald Glover voices Yoshi. Illumination president Chris Meledandri confirmed it during the Nintendo Direct broadcast on March 9, 2026, putting months of fan speculation to rest. Glover, known for Community, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and his music career as Childish Gambino, was a name fans had been guessing since early trailers teased an unfamiliar voice behind the green dinosaur.
First Look at Wart and the New Cast
The trailer delivers the first screen appearance of Wart, the villain from Super Mario Bros. 2. Luis Guzman voices the character, and he gets only a brief moment in the trailer. Issa Rae joins the cast as Honey Queen, the ruler of the Honey Hive Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy. Both additions push the film deeper into Nintendo mythology than most expected.
Returning cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario and Brie Larson as Rosalina. Benny Safdie is back as Bowser Jr., whose storyline is front and center in this trailer: Bowser Jr. launches a mission to rescue his father from the Mario Bros. That setup rips Princess Peach’s castle directly from the Mushroom Kingdom, a sequence that looks like one of the film’s bigger set pieces.
Possible Star Fox Cameo
Eagle-eyed viewers spotted what appears to be a Fox McCloud silhouette in a brief shot toward the end of the trailer. Nintendo has not confirmed this. If Star Fox does appear, it would mark the character’s debut in the film universe and a significant expansion of the Nintendo cinematic world. For now it stays in the teaser category.
Miyamoto on the 40th Anniversary
“Since September of last year, we’ve been taking various initiatives for the Super Mario Brothers 40th anniversary,” Miyamoto said during the Direct. “This movie will be the centerpiece of the anniversary. We hope you enjoy Mario and friends’ new adventure on the big screen.”
The film’s April 1, 2026 release date lands squarely in the middle of Nintendo’s yearlong anniversary push. Tickets are on sale now at participating theaters.
What It Means for Super Nintendo World
Both Super Nintendo World locations are running movie-themed events right now. Universal Studios Hollywood is hosting Universal Fan Fest Nights April 23 through May 16, with Super Nintendo World getting five colored Yoshis and a special fan challenge for the event. Universal’s Epic Universe, which opened earlier this year, has its own Super Nintendo World tied into the movie rollout.
Super Nintendo World has already added a Yoshi meet-and-greet, new food items, and Luma merchandise tied to the film. The park’s Galaxy-themed push lines up directly with the April 1 theatrical debut. Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood is also three years old this month, and this movie cycle is the biggest thing the land has been connected to since opening.
