It’s been a long time since The Fantastic Four have been the center of attention at Marvel studios, with the last Fantastic Four film being released in 2005, to poor-to-middling reviews. The 2005 film received a humble 45% audience rating on the popular movie site Rotten Tomatoes, with its critic score coming in even lower at 27% across 212 critic reviews.
Now, twenty years later, the Fantastic Four are being given a second chance. This new film, premiering in theaters July 25th, 2025, is directed by Matt Shakman, produced by Kevin Feige, and executive produced by Louis D’Esposito, Grant Curtis, and Tim Lewis.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is a new era of Fantastic storytelling, featuring a vibrant, 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic aesthetic that helps tell the story of Marvel’s first family.
Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss step into the roles of the Fantastic Four team as superheros Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing) as they face the daunting challenge of defending the earth from a ravenous space God and his minions.
Galactus – played by Ralph Ineson – plans to devour the planet and everyone on it, and the Fantastic Four are forced to juggle their superhero duties (you know, saving the world!) with family bonds.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps, also features the talent of Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, Sarah Niles, and Julia Garner as Galactus’s enigmatic herald, Silver Surfer. Now, Marvel Studios invites fans to take a look at the first official trailer for this film:
