What should you carry in the parks? What should families add to the packing list? How should Florida weather change your suitcase?

Universal Orlando Resort has a new vacation packing list, and it goes well beyond sunscreen and walking shoes. Published July 30, 2026, the guide covers theme park days, hotel activities, Universal CityWalk plans, and Florida’s quick weather swings.

Universal recommends keeping a phone charger in your carry-on if you’re flying, along with printed copies of tickets or travel confirmations. The list also calls for comfortable park clothes, swimwear, and a dressier option for nights out. The printed-copy tip may feel old-school, but it’s the item I’d be happiest to have when a phone decides not to cooperate.

What should you carry in the parks?

A small bag or fanny pack is Universal’s park-day recommendation. Some attractions require bags to be stored in lockers, and a compact bag may fit one of the small free lockers. A fanny pack can stay with you on some attractions.

Pack for water.

A reusable bottle can be filled at any drinking fountain or with help from food-and-beverage team members. For water attractions at Universal Islands of Adventure and Universal Epic Universe, Universal suggests waterproof pouches or zip-close plastic bags. A poncho and change of clothes can handle the rides and possible afternoon rain.

Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses belong in the park bag, too.

What should families add to the packing list?

Families traveling with a child can bring a compact stroller for airports and crowded park paths. Rental options are available at the parks and hotels if you don’t want to carry one through the trip. Disposable dishes and placemats can cut down on cleanup, while a wide-brimmed hat, light clothing, and sunscreen provide sun protection.

A light jacket or blanket can help children move between Florida heat and strong indoor air conditioning. Guests who need a wheelchair can bring their own or use a rental option at the parks and hotels. A team member can direct them to the rental location upon arrival.

How should Florida weather change your suitcase?

Florida weather calls for both sun protection and rain gear. Universal suggests checking the forecast and considering an umbrella or raincoat for afternoon showers.

Layers matter, too.

A light jacket and layered clothing are recommended during the resort’s “Florida winter,” particularly from December through March. The season can bring warm days alongside cooler mornings and evenings.

Hotel activities and Universal CityWalk can call for different clothes than a park day, including swimwear or a dressier evening option. A spare carry-on can hold souvenirs, while cards, a mobile game, or a book can fill time in attraction queues. If you’re bringing a camera, don’t forget an extra memory card.

For longer visits, three-, four-, and five-day Park-to-Park tickets are available for visits beginning January 1, 2026. Those tickets allow guests to move freely among all four theme parks.
