What happens on Cars Ridge Run Rally? How is the new ride vehicle different? How does Piston Peak fit into Frontierland? What to know

Piston Peak National Park is getting a second attraction, and it’s a school-bus-sized Audio-Animatronics figure hosting a demolition derby. Disney announced Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event presented by Visa, alongside fresh details on the Cars land coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom.

Michael Hundgen, Vice President Creative for Walt Disney World, and Imagineer Jason Grandt took the “Horizons: A Carousel of Progress” stage to share it. Miss Fritter, the “Diva of Demolition” from Cars 3, hosts what Hundgen called her “wildest demolition derby yet.”

What happens on Cars Ridge Run Rally?

Grandt walked the crowd through the racing attraction, framed as a quest to find “the wildest racer in the wheelderness” while competing for the “fastest lap in the west.” The course runs through the rugged beauty of America’s national parks, including a climb up Piston Peak itself, where an icy, snow-covered mountaintop waits at the summit. Grandt said he’s especially excited to experience that frosty peak at night.

From the top, racers plummet into a camelback descent, then navigate a geyser field. The finish circles the Old Tankfull geyser before a sprint to the line, where Lightning McQueen and Mater call the race live on Racing Sports Network.

Fans at D23 saw the off-road challenges up close: ridges, rivers, mud flats, and tree-covered trails, laid out in a 225-square-foot scale model of the whole project at the “Imagineering: Horizons” pavilion.

How is the new ride vehicle different?

Cars Ridge Run Rally debuts a completely new ride vehicle, designed not to simulate an off-road car but to be one. Hundgen promised guests will “feel every bump, drop, and rock because this vehicle’s tires and suspension are truly driving over and reacting to them.” Construction is already “fully underway,” with Hundgen describing the visible progress as “Imagineering in the round.”

How does Piston Peak fit into Frontierland?

Piston Peak is fictional, but it’s inspired by the Rocky Mountain area and the history and iconic sights of the American Frontier and its national parks. Guests will explore the visitor lodge, Ranger HQ, trails and more, all inside the Disney and Pixar Cars universe. Imagineers are building it in “Parkitecture,” an architectural style developed by the National Park Service so structures harmonize with the natural environment.

Disney says the land continues the storytelling walk that’s crossed Liberty Square and Frontierland since opening day: colonial architecture, a bear-y fun concert in the North Woods, a New Orleans stop at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and the Arizona bluffs of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Trees will screen the off-road rally from the rest of Frontierland and Liberty Square. Rugged mountains with dramatic peaks sit along a calming waterway across from Grizzly Hall, and geysers from Big Thunder stretch into the rally’s trails.

What to know

Piston Peak National Park is part of the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history, and Disney hasn’t announced an opening date for either attraction. Imagineers are also at work beyond Big Thunder on the first-ever land inspired by the Disney Villains, with two major attractions plus dining and shopping.
