Pixar Place Hotel at Disneyland Resort is dressed up for Halloween, and Mike and Sulley are running the show. Disney Parks Blog spotlighted the new Monsters, Inc.-inspired decor on Thursday, September 3, along with the Resort Enhancement artist who designed it.

Disney calls it the hotel’s first-ever Halloween transformation, and it’s part of Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort this fall. Guests can spot artwork of Mike, Sulley, and other Monsters, Inc. characters dressed in Halloween costumes, plus hidden seasonal details around the hotel.

Who Designed the Pixar Place Hotel Halloween Decor

Digital artist Brett Snodgrass created the artwork. He’s part of the Resort Enhancement team at Disneyland Resort and has been designing pieces around the resort for over eight years.

The idea started when a teammate suggested exploring what Halloween would look like for Mike, Sulley, and Boo. “I started to think: Monsters, Inc., Halloween, trick-or-treat, and doors,” Snodgrass said. “You can see all of our monster characters in the artwork having fun, wearing costumes and passing the candy back and forth between our world and theirs.”

That storyline carries through every piece, right down to the trick or scream candy bags.

A Collaboration With Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar

Bringing the decor to life took months of work between Walt Disney Imagineering, Pixar, and Resort Enhancement. Snodgrass worked closely with Pixar to keep the characters true to their established designs and personalities.

He also studied the early concept art from the Monsters films. “Guests are going to see a lot of shapes and compositions that really reflect some of that early concept artwork,” he said.

Once the artwork got its final approval, printers, graphic technicians, and installers turned the concepts into the finished environment guests now see at the hotel.

Two Years in the Making

Snodgrass has a personal tradition after every installation. He walks the space where his art is displayed and takes it all in. This project was no different.

“It’s a really incredible feeling knowing that after two years of development, people are finally going to be able to experience this,” he said.

I love that the hotel finally has its own seasonal layer. Halloween Time already covers the parks, and the Monsters, Inc. artwork gives Pixar Place Hotel guests something to hunt for before they even reach the gates.
