All dogs are good dogs, even the six-eyed ones. StarWars.com published a feature on September 17, 2026 rounding up ten canine creatures from across the galaxy far, far away. “No matter the galaxy, all dogs are good dogs,” writes Kelly Knox.
Plenty of them aren’t dogs in any literal sense. The frogdogs of At Attin have bulging eyes set on top of a big head, hairless skin, short legs and sharp canine teeth. One of them lives a contented life with Mrs. Ikk, whose mischievous young neighbor Wim keeps startling her pet into barking.
Which of these dogs show up in the newest Star Wars stories?
Bounty hunter Embo travels with an anooba named Keibu after the fall of the Empire in Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, now on Disney+. Anoobas are carnivorous pack hunters with large pointed ears built for tracking, and they can be trained by instructors willing to take the risk.
A rescued Ghor hound named Elvis appears in Andor, living with his caring owner in the capital city of Palmo. The two hunker down together during one of Ghorman’s most fraught moments in history. Ghor hounds have wrinkled skin, sparse hair and large bat-like ears with grooved pinnae.
How did Batcher end up with the Bad Batch?
The lurca hound designated LH-201 was held in the Imperial kennels at the Mount Tantiss facility on Wayland, where the hounds patrol under droid handler K-9X1. Omega freed her. Renamed Batcher, she becomes part of the Clone Force 99 family and settles on Pabu, staying close by Omega’s side.
Lurca hounds are massive, muscular and difficult to domesticate, with snub noses and a bony frill along the head that boosts the resonance of their calls.
Which ones will never be pets?
The Loth-wolves of Lothal, for a start. They’re deeply connected to the Force, highly intelligent, and able to communicate with anyone strong in it. Ancient paintings on the planet are dedicated to them. Too massive and wild to keep, the wolves in Star Wars Rebels still let riders climb on their backs and cross the grassy plains of Lothal.
A vulptex isn’t typically tamed or domesticated, but the curious canines helped Resistance members escape the First Order, as seen in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The fox-like animals have shining crystalline fur, and a group of them, called a skulk, made a home in an abandoned rebel base on the desolate planet.
Others are far friendlier than they look. Barghests fill their massive jaws with dozens of razor-sharp teeth and fiercely protect their companions, and the forger Gwellis Bagnoro kept one. Bell Zettifar, Padawan of the High Republic, is often accompanied by his charhound buddy Ember, and charhounds appreciate a nice scratch behind the ears. Even the scaled, spiked massiffs of Tatooine love attention. Just ask the Mandalorian.
