The studio behind Planet Coaster is making a Disney game. Frontier Developments announced a collaboration with Disney for a new video game on Thursday, September 3, 2026. The announcement went up on Frontier’s corporate news page. It’s short on specifics, but the shape of it is clear.

What Frontier and Disney announced
Frontier Developments will develop a new video game in collaboration with Disney, and the game will be fully funded by Frontier. The company says it will build on its experience as a leader in the Creative Management Simulation genre. That’s the genre Frontier calls CMS for short. Frontier announced it on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
Frontier lists three franchises as the proof of that track record. Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, and Jurassic World Evolution all get named in the announcement as genre-leading titles.
There’s one more detail tucked into the same sentence. Frontier says it also has an unannounced Planet game currently in development. That’s separate from the Disney project, and the company did not say anything else about it.
What Frontier says about the game
Frontier CEO Jo Cooke says the Disney collaboration reinforces the company’s strategy of building creative management simulation franchises. Cooke framed the mission as connecting a creative player community with one of the world’s most iconic brands. The full quote came in Frontier’s September 3, 2026 announcement.
Here’s how Cooke put it: “We are delighted to announce this collaboration with Disney, which further reinforces our clearly defined strategy of developing and nurturing world-class creative management simulation game franchises. Our mission with this game is to connect a passionate creative community of players with one of the world’s most iconic and beloved brands, and I can’t wait to see what our talented teams will create with this amazing opportunity.”
That’s the whole statement. I like that the company is funding the game itself. It means Frontier is putting its own money behind a Disney project, not the other way around.
What the announcement does not say
Frontier’s announcement does not name the game, a release window, platforms, or which Disney properties it will use. It also does not say whether the game is a theme park builder. Planet Coaster fans will have to wait for Frontier to say more. I’ll update this story when the company shares a title or more details.
Disney and video games have been a busy pairing lately. Disney’s own parks just linked a ride to a game when Smugglers Run added a Fortnite tie-in on August 16. On the theme park side, Disney announced Piston Peak rides for Magic Kingdom at D23 this summer. And the first Minecraft theme park land is coming to Chessington in 2027, which shows how far game and park crossovers now run.
What to know: Frontier Developments is developing a new Disney video game, fully funded by Frontier, announced Thursday, September 3, 2026. Frontier is the studio behind Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, and Jurassic World Evolution. No title, platforms, release date, or specific Disney properties have been announced.
